8:30 a.m. — The Mental Health on the Prairies Hybrid Conference and Community Conversation, hosted by the Centre for Critical Studies of Rural Mental Health (CCSRMH), will be held over three days at Brandon University. Enjoy a one-hour tour of the sugar bush and maple syrup operation led by syrup maker Dave Barnes at 11 a.m. If conditions are right, we will be boiling syrup in the evaporator and sap will be dripping into the pails. Daly House Museum (122 18th St., Brandon) — Built in 1882, original home of Brandon’s first mayor, Thomas Mayne Daly. Artifacts include a collection of late 19th-century and early 20th-century furnishings, First World War memorabilia. Daly House in partnership with the Brandon Embroiderers presents “The Art of Embroidery: Past and Present,” an exhibit featuring more than 100 embroidery pieces dating from the 1800s to the present. Exhibit is on display until May 20. Art Gallery of Southwestern Manitoba (Unit 2, 710 Rosser Ave., Brandon) — Free admission. Manitoba’s oldest centre for visual art and one of Canada’s first since 1907. The AGSM boasts two exhibition spaces, an art school and gift shop that supports more than 70 local Manitoba artists. In the Kayes Family Community Gallery are two exhibitions on until June 6, the “Tears of Truth” bead curtain project created by Brandon area students and community members; and “Reconciliation, Resilience and Red” by Justina McKay. Commonwealth Air Training Plan Museum (CATPM) (Brandon Municipal Airport, Highway 10, 1.6 kilometres north of Brandon) — Canada’s only air museum solely dedicated to the preservation of those who trained and fought for the British Commonwealth during the Second World War. Royal Canadian Artillery Museum (Building N-118 Patricia Rd., CFB Shilo) — Discover “WWII Command Posts,” a temporary exhibit at the RCA Museum, showcasing Canada’s mobile command vehicles and their role in co-ordinating artillery and communications during the Second World War. May 7 — The Brandon University School of Music welcomes international superstar violinist James Ehnes as he returns to his hometown for a special recital at the Lorne Watson Recital Hall at 7:30 p.m. He will be accompanied by pianist Andrew Armstrong in this intimate performance. The show is already sold out. Additionally, a fundraising champagne reception will follow the concert with proceeds to Brandon University’s Ehnes Scholarships in violin and trumpet. May 10 — City of Brandon Parks and Recreation present a special Mother’s Day Trivia Night at T-Birds Food Fun Games Grill and Bar (upstairs at 2140 Currie Blvd.) from 1 to 3 p.m. Food and drink available to purchase. May 10 — The second annual Mother’s Day Blossom Festival in memory of Keay Dobson-Golletz at the Assiniboine Food Forest (1735 Rosser Ave. East) from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. Enjoy a tea, floral cupcakes from Courtney’s Cake Creations, the best homemade apple pies, lemon meringue pies, lemon lavender cake and more. Gluten-free options are available. There will also be a gift to take home for mom, activities for kids, a 50/50 raffle and a chance to purchase our yearly Food Forest memberships. This is a free event but donations are accepted.

May 12 — The Westman Jazz Orchestra is proud to announce their debut concert, Music for the Arts: A Fundraiser Concert, hosted by Arts Mosaic. This concert also features Brandon Community Band, the Melita Jazzers, and the Vincent Massey Senior Jazz Band and will be held at the Aud Theatre (228 Wellington St. West) in Virden. Doors open at 6 p.m.; concert at 6:30 p.m. Tickets are $30 plus fees and available at artsmosaic.ca. May 14 — The State of the Province luncheon will be held in the UCT Pavilion at the Keystone Centre from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. with lunch at noon. Featuring The Honorable Wab Kinew, Premier of Manitoba. May 14 — The first Cruise Night of the season takes place in downtown Brandon on Rosser Avenue between Sixth Street and 13th Street from 6 to 9 p.m. People wishing to show their vehicles are encouraged to enter the event at the intersection of Rosser Avenue and 13th Street. May 14 — The Keystone Centre Foundation presents the first ever benefit dinner: Legacy & Lights. Join us to celebrate the past, present and future of the Keystone Centre with special guest speaker Israel Idonije, former NFL defensive lineman and entrepreneur and standup comedian Dave Hemstad. Proceeds will help support the ongoing operation, improvement and accessibility of the Keystone Centre. May 16 — At The Farm Gate’s Spring Market opens from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. at the Onanole Recreation Centre featuring regional and local goods, arts, farm produce and baked goods. Free admission.

May 16 — Spring in the Dunes Guided Hikes from 10 a.m. to noon at the Spirit Sands Trailhead, Spruce Woods Provincial Park. Join a Park Interpreter for a four-kilometre hike in the Spirit Sands where we will discover the diverse ecosystems, flora and fauna, and the intricate history of the sand dunes. May 16-17 — The 2026 Fundraiser for the Minnedosa Ag Society takes place at the Minnedosa Agricultural Complex from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. on Saturday with a pancake breakfast, Spring Market and Tack Sale and Manitoba Chore Team Series III. May 16-18 — Spirit Sands Wagon Outfitters are kicking off their 30th season in the park with the Robinsons. Join us for a ride through the beautiful Spirit Sands in Spruce Woods Provincial Park. Opening weekend rides at noon and 2 p.m. Cost is $30 for adults; $10 for youths. It’s an hour-and-a-half ride with two stops: Spirit Sands and the Punch Bowl. May 22-23 — The City of Brandon City-Wide yard sales kick off this weekend for those west of 18th Street. May 22 hours are 5 to 8 p.m.; May 23, 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. East of 18th Street will take place May 29-30.

May 22-24 — Join us at PrairieCon for a weekend of role-playing games, miniature games, collectible card games and board games. May 23 — Touch-a-Truck Brandon is a family-friendly event where kids can climb in, touch and look at all sorts of vehicles and construction equipment. All proceeds go to Kokums Early Enrichment Programs. Event takes place on the Keystone Centre grounds from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. (quiet hour 9 to 10 a.m.). Will also have face painting, bouncy castles, equipment demonstrations. Hotdogs, burger, Bannock dogs, Bannock burgers, drinks, chips and freezies all available for purchase. Cost is $5 person at the gate. Children a year old and under are free.

May 23 — Brandon Garden Club will hold its annual fundraiser plant sale at the Dome Building on the Keystone Centre grounds from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m.

May 23 — Get ready for the City of Brandon Parks and Recreation Disc Golf Tournament at Assiniboine Ridge Disc Golf Course (Canada Games Park). Check-in at 8:30 a.m. Players will enjoy two rounds of 18 holes, with an hour lunch break between rounds. Prizes awarded to winners in each division: beginner, intermediate and advanced. May 23 — Join author Audrhea Lande at Poor Michael’s Emporium (322 Highway 10, Onanole) at 1 p.m. for a book reading and signing of “On the Hunt for William Hallett.” She discusses her research on the forgotten Métis leader William Hallet.

May 24 — Westman Dreams for Kids Children’s Country Fair will take place on the Keystone Centre grounds (Clara tent and surrounding area) from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Enjoy a day of activities including: bouncy castles and inflatables, face decorating, petting zoo, crafts and games, horse and wagon rides and much, much more. A cash-only canteen will also be serving delicious snacks and treats throughout the day. No admission fee.
