A deck fire at a trailer on Spruce Street in Meadowbrook Village was quickly brought under control Saturday evening.
Brandon Fire and Emergency Services acting Capt. Michael Hole said there were no injuries and minimal damage to the structure.
“Our crews responded to the report of a structure fire at approximately 7:25 p.m. at the trailer park north of Glen Lea Golf Course,” he told the Sun. “The first vehicle arrived on scene at 7:41 p.m.”

Firefighters found that the blaze had started on a deck attached to the trailer but had not spread into the home itself.
Hole said the homeowner had already extinguished most of the fire before emergency crews arrived.
“When we arrived on scene, there was light smoke coming from the structure, from the eaves, and also a bit of smoke coming from one of the roof vents,” he said in an interview. “Crews accessed the attic area, and no fire was found in that area. It was just smoke from the deck fire that had gotten into the attic space.”
Hole said the homeowner and two other occupants were inside the trailer when the fire was discovered. All three were able to evacuate safely without injuries.
“The homeowner was the one who noticed the fire and called it in,” he said.
Residents were temporarily evacuated while firefighters ensured the blaze was fully extinguished, but were later allowed to return to the trailer.
The cause of the fire remains under investigation.
With warmer weather arriving, Hole encouraged residents to take precautions around their homes to reduce fire risks.
Brandon Fire and Emergency Services firefighters work on the roof of the Meadowbrook Village home. Firefighters found that the blaze had started on the attached deck, but hadn’t spread to the home itself.
“In general, keep your yards clean,” he said. “Make sure weeds and debris aren’t allowed to build up around the house. Water your grass when you can, just to keep everything green and not dry.”
Hole said that Brandon has seen relatively few fires in recent months.
