Motel assault

Brandon police arrested a man early Friday morning after he allegedly assaulted a woman at a motel.

The Brandon Police Service received a report of an assault at a motel on the 800 block of Middleton Avenue at around 5 a.m.

Police arrived at the motel and found a 22-year-old woman who had minor bruising and swelling to the left side of her face and eye, BPS said in a news release.

Officers arrested a “highly intoxicated” 24-year-old man at the scene and charged him with assault.

Police held the man in BPS detention cells with the intention of releasing him on an undertaking once sober.

Hang-up 911 call

Brandon police arrested a man on Monday morning after responding to a “hang-up 911 call” from a business.

Officers with the Brandon Police Service responded to the call, which came from a business on the 1800 block of First Street, at around 9:10 a.m.

When police arrived, they were met at the door by a man holding a bat, BPS said in a news release.

Police said he was not co-operative and high on methamphetamine.

Officers arrested the 57-year-old man and charged him with resisting arrest and two counts of possessing a weapon.

Police held him in BPS detention cells with the intention of releasing him on an undertaking once sober. He is scheduled to appear in court in July
