Mounties arrested a wanted Ebb and Flow First Nation man after a 90-minute chase on Sunday evening, police say.
Shortly before 10 p.m., Ste. Rose du Lac RCMP members were trying to find a man who had four arrest warrants on several charges, including flight from police and assaulting a police officer, RCMP said in a news release Tuesday.
Officers went to a shed on a property on Highway 278 in Ebb and Flow First Nation where police thought the suspect would be, police said.
As officers entered the shed, they saw the man exit the back and run away, ignoring instructions for him to stop, Mounties said. Officers chased the man before tracking him with a drone.
About an hour and a half later, the RCMP police dog unit arrived as the suspect was heading southwest from Highway 278 toward “the community’s old dump road,” RCMP said.
After an approximately 1.2-kilometre track through “thick bush and swampy areas,” a police dog found and caught the suspect, police said.
Ebb and Flow First Nation Fire Department members used their off-road vehicle to bring the suspect out of the bush.
The man was treated at a hospital for bite wounds before being transported to Ste. Rose du Lac’s RCMP detachment.
Mark Houle, 45, now faces an additional charge of resisting arrest. He remained in custody as of Tuesday morning.
