Brandon police arrested a man early Wednesday morning for allegedly hitting his wife with a large object.

The Brandon Police Service responded to a call requesting police assistance at a home on the 300 block of Fifth Street at around 6:10 a.m.

When officers got to the home, they learned that a man had hit his wife with what was believed to be a large wooden stick, BPS said in a news release Thursday.

Police arrested a 38-year-old man and charged him with assault with a weapon. He was transported to BPS headquarters, as he needed an interpreter, police said.

Following further investigation, BPS released the man on an undertaking, and he is scheduled to appear in court in August.
