Teen arrested after stabbing

A 16-year-old boy was arrested after allegedly stabbing two people on Saturday.

The Brandon Police Service received a report that multiple people had been stabbed at a home on the 1600 block of McTavish Avenue at around 6 a.m.

When police arrived, they found three people with injuries “consistent with being struck with a bladed weapon,” including the suspect, who was arrested a short distance away, BPS said in a news release.

All three individuals were brought to Brandon Regional Health Centre for treatment, police said. The accused was subsequently brought to BPS detention cells, where he was held overnight for his court appearance on Monday.

He faces charges of assault, disobeying a court order and two counts of assault with a weapon.

The Crown consented to the youth’s release on several conditions, including a $500 promise to pay.

He is scheduled to appear in court again in July.

Man charged with armed robbery

A man has been charged with armed robbery after allegedly approaching a couple of youths in downtown Brandon and stealing one of their necklaces on Saturday.

The Brandon Police Service received a report that a man had approached a couple — a 15-year-old boy and 16-year-old girl — in Princess Park while brandishing bear spray shortly before 10 a.m., BPS said.

The man pulled the male’s necklace off and left the area, police said.

Police arrested a 31-year-old man a few blocks away.

Assault at Brandon business

Brandon police arrested a woman on Sunday in connection to an assault at a business late last month.

The Brandon Police Service received a report of an assault at a business on the 100 block of Fourth Street on May 29. A woman reported that another woman, who she was familiar with, punched her in the face, BPS said in a news release.

Police found the 37-year-old suspect at a residence on Buttercup Bay and arrested her on Sunday. BPS charged her with assault.

She was transported to BPS headquarters, where she was fingerprinted and released on an undertaking.

The woman is scheduled to appear in court in August.

Police find crack cocaine, meth

A man was arrested on Sunday after a traffic stop led police to find crack cocaine and methamphetamine.

Brandon Police Service members pulled over an SUV in the back lane of the 700 block of 10th Street at around 9:10 p.m. and noticed unstamped cigarettes in plain view, BPS said in a news release.

Police asked the driver to step out of the vehicle and told him that he was being detained in relation to the unstamped tobacco, BPS said.

Officers found two grams of crack cocaine, divided into three equal packages in the pocket of a sweater he removed prior to stepping out of his vehicle, BPS said. A further search of the vehicle turned up a sealed 765-gram bag of methamphetamine, a cellphone, a small folding knife and $135 in cash, BPS said.

BPS said the estimated street value of the methamphetamine, if sold for $50 per gram, was more than $37,000.

The 33-year-old man was arrested and charged with possessing methamphetamine and crack cocaine for the purpose of trafficking, possessing a weapon, possessing proceeds of crime and failing to comply with his undertaking.

Police also served the man with a contravention notice for possessing fewer than 25 units of unmarked tobacco.

He was held in BPS detention cells and scheduled to appear in court on Monday.
