Brandon police arrested a man early Friday morning after he allegedly assaulted a woman.

The Brandon Police Service received a report of an assault at a house near Birchview Place at around 3:15 a.m.

A man had thrown his partner, a 40-year-old woman, to the ground, causing bruises and scrapes, BPS said in a news release.

Officers arrested the 43-year-old man and charged him with assault. Police held him in detention cells with the intention of releasing him on an undertaking once sober, BPS said.

He is scheduled to appear in court in September.

SIGNATURE FORGED

A man who allegedly forged his ex-partner’s signature on a bill of sale for a vehicle they owned together was arrested on Thursday.

A 43-year-old woman reported on June 16 that she was the registered co-owner of a Dodge Ram truck and that her ex-partner had sold the truck without her authorization, the Brandon Police Service said in a news release.

The woman told police he had forged her signature on the bill of sale, BPS said.

After further investigation, police arrested a 48-year-old man at his residence on Ptarmigan Way and charged him with forging a document.

The man was taken to BPS headquarters and later released on an appearance notice. He is scheduled to appear in court in September.

OVERLAND FLOOD WATCH

The provincial government has issued an overland flood watch for parts of western and northern Manitoba, including the Parkland.

A forecast precipitation system is expected to affect the province today through Tuesday, the province announced in a flood bulletin Friday afternoon.

“There is a high likelihood that parts of western Manitoba, including the Parkland and northwestern regions of Manitoba, and the Saskatchewan and Assiniboine River basins in Saskatchewan could receive more than 60 millimetres of precipitation between June 27 and 30,” the bulletin said.

Some weather models suggest that localized rainfall amounts could be in excess of 80 mm.

Other parts of the province, including southwestern Manitoba could see between 40 and 60 mm of precipitation during the four-day stretch.

Low-lying areas, spots with poor drainage and places that have already received significant rainfall could all see localized overland flooding, the province warned.

The province also said that the Assiniboine River from the Shellmouth Dam to Brandon remains under a flood warning.
