Mounties made a “handful” of arrests during Dauphin’s Countryfest last weekend, including a Brandon man who allegedly started a fight after he was found sleeping in the wrong camper.
“Dauphin Countryfest attendees enjoyed the music and the revelry over the weekend, with only a small number of interactions that required RCMP intervention,” RCMP said in a news release on Tuesday highlighting several arrests made throughout the weekend.
Last Thursday evening, a 30-year-old man “physically challenged” officers and security several times throughout the night before he got into a pushing match with the 20-year-old woman he was with, RCMP said.
Mounties arrested the Valley River First Nation couple, issued them $672 tickets for disorderly conduct and held them in custody overnight.
Early Friday morning, a 24-year-old Brandon man was found sleeping in the wrong camper and began fighting with the rightful occupants when he was woken up, Mounties said. Police arrested the man and he spent the night in custody before being released without charge.
On Saturday, a Saskatchewan man got into an argument with his girlfriend at the beer garden, and when officers asked him to “leave her alone for a little while,” he repeatedly declined, police said.
RCMP held the man in custody overnight until he sobered up and he received $1,344 in tickets.
Police also arrested a 40-year-old Lake St. Martin First Nation man on Saturday after he allegedly assaulted a woman inside a trailer at the campground, police said. The woman did not need medical attention, and police charged the man with assault, the release said.
Shortly before 2 a.m. on Sunday, a 22-year-old man was walking back to his campsite with his girlfriend when a man punched him multiple times in the head, Mounties said.
An ambulance took him to the hospital, and the following night police arrested an 18-year-old Dauphin man, RCMP said. His festival bracelet was revoked, and he faces a charge of assault causing bodily harm.
Also on Sunday, RCMP charged a 46-year-old woman with impaired driving-related offences after pulling over a vehicle that was driving erratically at the campground.
“RCMP thanks festival organizers and city officials for their annual efforts to ensure Countryfest is safe for all attendees,” RCMP said in the release. “We also thank the thousands of attendees who enjoyed the music and all that comes with it in a safe and responsible manner.”
