Bear spray discharged

A Dauphin man has been charged with assault with a weapon following a report that a man discharged bear spray at another from a bicycle while passing by.

RCMP received a report around 6:10 a.m. on June 27 that someone had been hit with bear spray while outside a residence on Eighth Avenue Northeast in Dauphin. A 36-year-old male told police he was walking home when someone he knew rode by on a bicycle and discharged bear spray.

The man went to the hospital for treatment.

Officers located the suspect the next day on First Street Southeast in Dauphin. Officers arrested him without incident, and found a can of bear spray in his bag during a search.

RCMP charged Jarreth Chartrand, 28, of Dauphin, with assault with a weapon, possession of a weapon for a dangerous purpose, and carrying a concealed weapon.

Chartrand was remanded into custody.

Flight from police

RCMP charged a Saskatchewan citizen with flight from a police officer after they say he accelerated down a road near Dauphin, turned into the back yard of a farm house and got stuck in a field after a traffic stop was initiated.

The incident took place at approximately 10:10 p.m. on June 25, after an officer noticed the truck had a burnt-out headlight while travelling on Highway 5 west of Dauphin, RCMP say.

RCMP police dog services were called to assist, and two occupants of the truck were arrested. RCMP say the driver refused to reveal his name, prompting a secondary investigation to confirm his identity.

Michael Delorme, 36, of Speers, Sask., was charged with flight from peace officer, impaired driving, mischief under $5,000, refusal of a breathalyzer and resisting a peace officer. He was remanded into custody, while the passenger was released without charge.
