TODAY

Noon — The Brandon General Museum and Archives is offering a look at downtown Brandon’s architecture with walking tours. Join us at 12 noon at Princess Park. The tour runs roughly 45 minutes. Also taking place on July 23 and Aug. 20. For more information, visit brandongeneralmuseum.ca.

5:30 p.m. — The Gilbert Plains-Grandview Agricultural Society Fair and Rodeo takes place over the weekend. Today: chuckwagon and chariot races at 7 p.m., beer gardens open at 5 p.m.

6:30 p.m. — The City of Brandon Parks and Recreation presents The Incredibly Hip live on the outdoor stage on the Keystone Centre grounds (note: this is a change of venue from the Riverbank Discovery Centre). Also featuring Simple Jack. Bring your friends, lawn chairs and come spend the evening with us. This is a free event to attend.

7 p.m. — Music in the Park at the Jubilee Stage in Victoria Park in Virden (Seventh Avenue South and Seymour Street West) features Heart’s Desire at 7 p.m. The Legion will be hosting a barbecue at each concert throughout the summer starting at 6:15 p.m. In case of rain, the concert will be held at the Legion Hall (540 Eighth Ave.).

7 p.m. — Music in the Park Thursdays at the Kenton Community Bandstand features Roll ‘n Tumblin. This is also an open mic night, so come and share your talent. Bring a lawn chair and bug spray!

FRIDAY

9 a.m. — The Souris Peacock Days and Fair will take place in Souris throughout the weekend featuring stock dog and shootout, parade, barrel racing and pole bending, kids firefighter rodeo, slow pitch, tractor pull, threshing demos, beer gardens and entertainment and much, much more. 6:30 p.m. — The City of Brandon Parks and Recreation Services announces the return of Music in the Park on Tuesdays at 6:30 p.m. in Princess Park. Bring your lawn chairs and enjoy an incredible lineup of local talent all summer long. No admission fee. Tonight’s show features ReImagined.

4 p.m. — Now until August, downtown Brandon transforms into a vibrant hub of excitement, creativity and community spirit at the Downtown Summer Market every Wednesday from 4 to 8 p.m. on Rosser Avenue. Stroll through the market and soak in the sounds of live music, savour delicious food and discover one-of-a-kind handmade goods from local artisans and chefs.

Daly House Museum (122 18th St., Brandon) — Built in 1882, original home of Brandon’s first mayor, Thomas Mayne Daly. Artifacts include a collection of late 19th-century and early 20th-century furnishings, First World War memorabilia. Hours: Tuesday to Saturday, 10 a.m. to noon and 1 to 4 p.m. Admission: $7 adults; $6 seniors and youth (6-18); family (up to two adults and three children), $13; children under five, free. Art Gallery of Southwestern Manitoba (Unit 2, 710 Rosser Ave., Brandon) — Free admission. Manitoba’s oldest centre for visual art and one of Canada’s first since 1907. The AGSM boasts two exhibition spaces, an art school and gift shop that supports more than 70 local Manitoba artists. Now until Aug. 1, the Main Gallery is featuring two exhibitions: “Mending: Quilt Project 2025-26” with Melanie Rocan and “Renewal,” a travelling exhibition featuring 33 fibre and textile artists. In the Kayes Family Community Gallery until Aug. 1 is “Making Our Mark III,” a community exhibition of local Westman 2SLGBTQIA+ artists. Brandon General Museum and Archives (19 Ninth St., Unit 101) — Attractions include the Brandon History Hall, Manitoba Telephone History, the BJ Hales Natural History Collection and rotating exhibits celebrating Brandon’s roots. Commonwealth Air Training Plan Museum (CATPM) (Brandon Municipal Airport, Highway 10, 1.6 kilometres north of Brandon) — Canada’s only air museum solely dedicated to the preservation of those who trained and fought for the British Commonwealth during the Second World War. Royal Canadian Artillery Museum (Building N-118 Patricia Rd., CFB Shilo) — Discover “WWII Command Posts,” a temporary exhibit at the RCA Museum, showcasing Canada’s mobile command vehicles and their role in co-ordinating artillery and communications during the Second World War. Wasagaming Community Arts (110 Wasagaming Dr.) — Current exhibition on now until Sept. 6 is “Weiming Zhao: Chasing Light and Colour in the Park.” Reception in honour of the artist will take place on Aug. 22 at 7 p.m. Open to the public and free to attend.

Killarney’s Heritage Home for the Arts (44 Water Ave., Killarney) — Killarney-Turtle Mountain Arts Council’s gallery is in the Heritage Home for the Arts. Gallery hours are Tuesday to Saturday, 1 to 4 p.m.; closed all statutory holidays. Special tours can be arranged by calling 204-554-0023. ArtsForward (293 Mountain Ave., Neepawa) — ArtsForward is the central arts venue in Neepawa in visual, literary, performing and material arts. Hours: 9 a.m. to 4:30 p.m., Monday to Thursday; 8:30 a.m. to 4 p.m. on Friday; closed on weekends. Our next exhibition starts on Thursday with the reception and opening with the artist Lesley Moffitt at 6 p.m. with a performance by Santi Sanchez.

Arts Mosaic (425 6th Ave. South, Virden) — The Arts Mosaic Gallery is located in the Historic CP Rail Station in Virden. The Gallery consists of the Main Gallery and Gallery 2. Hours: Tuesday to Friday from 10:30 a.m. to 5:30 p.m.; Saturday from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Our next exhibition starts on Thursday with the reception and opening with the artist Lesley Moffitt at 6 p.m. with a performance by Santi Sanchez. July 16 — City of Brandon Parks and Recreation presents Open Mic Night at the Riverbank Discovery Centre at 5:30 p.m. This is a free event. Open to music, comedy, poetry and more.

July 16 — Hamiota Agricultural Fair will be held at the Hamiota fairgrounds. Pancake breakfast at 6:30 a.m., parade at 9 a.m. Carnival games, petting zoo, show and shine, livestock shows, Midwest AAA U-18 baseball.

July 17 — Harding Agricultural Fair includes a pancake breakfast at 6:30 a.m. Light and heavy horse shows, beef cattle shows, harness and miniatures and much, much more.

July 17-18 — Wawanesa’s Pound Pail Paddle event takes place over the weekend. Build a boat, showcase your boat in the parade and then race it down the Souris River. Weekend is loaded with music, games, food and beverages. Social on Friday with 8 Track Shuffle. Local talent showcase on Saturday followed by live music by Neon Madmen.

July 17-19 — The Salamander Summer Music Festival will be held in Rideau Park for three days of Prairie music, food, art and culture. Artists include: Jan Ek, Shipaki El Salvador Folk Dance, 11:22, Kwae Kobain, Full Flannel Jacket, Solaire, 3D Bank, Heidi Hislop, House of Hex, Mike Lamb, Louden King, Re-Imagined, Roots 10 Collective, Kate’s Outlaw, Kayla Luky, Tommy Douglas Keenan, Amber Epp and Emmanuel Bach, Wheat City Jug Band, Prince Eddy and the Wrecking Balls and An Unexpected End. July 17-19 — The Dakota Oyate Wacipi’s 80th annual Sioux Valley Dakota Nation Powwow takes place at the Sioux Valley powwow grounds over the weekend featuring women’s traditional, jingle and fancy; men’s traditional, chicken, grass and fancy. There will also be a moccasin tournament. Drums by Dakota Hotain, Dakota Travels, Riverside Dakota as well as many other invited drum groups. Dakota Oyate Wacipi is a drug and alcohol free event. Security on site 24/7.

July 17-19 — Join us at the Manitoba Stampede and Exhibition at Morris for our pro-rodeo event on the Canadian Tour circuit. Complete with some of the top names in bull riding, bronco-busting, tie down roping, bareback riding and steer wrestling circles. Also get ready for the fast paced thoroughbred chariot and pony chuckwagon racing. July 18 — An alt indie rock band from the U.K., Supalung will be performing at Poor Michael’s Emporium at 7:30 p.m. Tickets are $30 and are available in store or online at Eventbrite.

July 18-19 — Westman Wilderness Club: Kinnis Creek Backpack in RMNP. This is an eight-kilometres trip and suitable for first-time backpackers with Di. Must have done at least a 10-kilometre day hike with the club. Will need to know by July 5 or ASAP as we’ll have to book sites. Cost is approximately $10-15 per person (depending on how many go). July 18-19 — Wasagaming Community Arts is delighted to present our annual Rawhide & Jellyroll Makers Market taking place in the Gallery spaces of Wasagaming Community Arts (110 Wasagaming Dr.) from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. For more than 30 years, the Rawhide & Jelly Roll Market has brought together a vibrant community of makers, artists and creative entrepreneurs.

July 18-19 — The Minnedosa Agricultural Society presents the 141st Fair and Exhibition Weekend featuring horse and pony shows, heavy horse shows, MGRA, miniature show, silent auction, butter tart challenge, smoked brisket supper and much more.

July 21-23 — Prairie Edge Football is offering a Summer Development Camp at the Canada Packers Sports Complex (360 Veterans Way) for young athletes entering Grades 6-8 and high school athletes entering Grades 9-12. This is a non-contact football development camp focused on fundamentals, movement, technique, skill development, IQ and overall development. No football equipment is required. July 26 Westman Jams gathers on the last Sunday of each month to play classic country music at The Fringe Restaurant and Lounge, on Cove Road in Shilo from 2 to 5 p.m. Admission is free and all are welcome. Entrance to CFB Shilo is now through the north gate only and valid identification is required to enter the base. We accept donations to the Reg Jones Memorial Scholarship Fund to help send Westman students to the International Music Camp at the International Peace Garden.
