Brandon police have charged a man after he allegedly ran over a man with a truck and fled the scene on Wednesday evening.
Police responded to a report of a fight between two men in the lobby entrance of a hotel on Queens Avenue near 20th and 18th streets. During the altercation, one of the men attempted to flee the scene in a truck while the other man tried to jump into the vehicle.
“As the truck drove away, the second male was left hanging from the vehicle before falling to the ground,” police said in a news release Friday. “Witnesses reported that the truck then ran over the victim in the upper back area.”
When officers arrived on the scene, the injured man was unconscious but still breathing.
He received medical treatment from Brandon Fire and Emergency Services and was taken to hospital.
Police said the victim is recovering from his injuries.
Police arrested the driver at a business on Pacific Avenue between Ninth Street and the Brandon Transit downtown terminal.
He was charged with failing to stop at the scene of an accident causing bodily harm. The man has been released on a notice to appear in court on Sept. 14.
