Traffic will be impacted starting next week when construction starts on First Street in Brandon to replace a watermain between Louise Avenue and Van Horne Avenue.
Construction will require partial lane closures. Drivers should expect delays and are encouraged to plan different routes to avoid the area, the city said. The city said that access to homes and businesses will be maintained during the construction.
“The city recognizes that construction may cause temporary disruptions and appreciates the patience of residents and business owners,” the city said in a news release Friday.
The infrastructure work is meant to ensure reliable drinking water service and to support continued growth in the community, the city said. The replacement project targets a section that was installed in 1910, and has a high number of recorded breaks.
A number of factors drove the decision to replace the watermain, including the number of recorded watermain breaks and the hospital, assisted living facilities, and commercial properties served by the infrastructure, the city said.
