STOLEN MERCEDES
A reported shoplifting early Tuesday morning has turned into a search for a stolen Mercedes.
Brandon police received a report of a shoplifting incident at a gas station on Middleton Drive around 5:15 a.m.
Through an investigation, police determined the licence plate on the vehicle driven by the suspect was registered to a Brandon resident.
The vehicle’s registered owner confirmed with officers that the vehicle had been stolen overnight, police said in a news release on Tuesday.
The suspect is described as a man wearing a red Crooks & Castles hoodie, black sweatpants, yellow work gloves and black slide sandals.
The stolen vehicle is a four-door, black 2011 Mercedes SUV with a licence plate KKS 455.
Anyone with information regarding these incidents is asked to contact the Brandon Police Service at 204-729-2345 or Crime Stoppers anonymously at 204-727-TIPS (8477).
THREATENED IN PARK
A 38-year-old woman has been charged with uttering threats and two counts of failing to comply with an undertaking after a woman was allegedly threatened in a park in Brandon.
Police received a report shortly after 2 p.m. on Monday that a woman had verbally threatened a 27-year-old woman, who was known to the suspect, before charging toward her in a park on Princess Avenue.
The victim was able to flee and didn’t sustain any physical injuries, police said.
Officers were able to locate the suspect in another park around 4:15 p.m. Police said the woman was in possession of a knife and a set of 3D-printed plastic brass knuckles.
She was arrested and later released on a court appearance notice. Her next court date is Oct. 5.
YELLING PROFANITIES
An intoxicated 43-year-old woman was detained by police Monday evening for an incident involving her son, police say.
Officers were called to a report of a disturbance near Hummingbird Gardens around 11 p.m. and located the woman, who was “highly intoxicated, agitated, and yelling profanities at her 12-year-old son,” police said in a news release Tuesday.
Police said the woman was unco-operative with officers and was arrested under the Protective Detention and Care of Intoxicated Persons Act. She was held in custody until sober. The child was turned over to the care of a sober relative.
