A 29-year-old Ontario man is facing multiple charges after Brandon police claim he was in possession of an estimated one-kilogram brick of cocaine and smaller packages of an unidentified substance early Friday morning.
Police initiated a traffic stop around 3:45 a.m. for a vehicle on Kasiurak Bay, police said in a news release on Friday.
The passenger in the vehicle, which was operating as an Uber from Winnipeg, initially gave officers a false name, police said.
Officers developed grounds to detain the man.
During their investigation, officers found two Ontario identification cards. One was determined to be counterfeit and the other belonged to the accused, police said.
Police said the man was bound by a release order involving a curfew requiring him to remain at an address in St. Catharines, Ont.
Police searched the vehicle and found the brick of cocaine in the man’s travel bag, a second cellphone, which constituted an additional breach of his release order, as well as approximately $1,100 in cash, the release said.
Officers also found several smaller packages containing an unidentified substance concealed in the pockets of the shorts the man was wearing underneath his pants, police said.
The suspect was charged with two counts of possessing property for the purpose of drug trafficking, possessing proceeds of property obtained by crime, public mischief and two counts of failing to comply with a release order.
He was taken into police custody and was scheduled to appear in court on Friday morning, police said.
