TRIO ARRESTED FOR THEFT

Three men have been charged with theft under $5,000 for allegedly stealing merchandise from a home improvement store in the Corral Centre on Saturday morning, Brandon police said.

Around 9:30 a.m., an off-duty police officer reported three men were in the process of stealing from a business near 18th Street North, police said in a news release on Sunday.

The suspects left the parking lot and were pulled over by on-duty police officers a couple of blocks away.

Sgt. Paul McBeth told the Sun the thefts occurred at Home Depot and that all the merchandise was recovered. He didn’t have details about what was stolen from the store.

Police learned one of the suspects — a 25-year-old man — was subject to a deportation order to permanently leave Canada. McBeth couldn’t provide specifics on the order or where the man was from.

He also couldn’t provide more details on the 27-year-old suspect who was issued a removal order by the Canada Border Services Agency on Saturday.

Police believe both men were travelling with a third suspect — a 37-year-old man believed to be from Winnipeg, McBeth said.

All suspects are not known to the Brandon police and were released from custody on an undertaking.

The Brandon Police Service did not disclose the suspects’ names.

MAN PUNCHED, SLAPPED

A 21-year-old woman has been charged with assault after Brandon police were called to a residence on Saturday morning for a report of a disturbance.

Officers were called to the home located in the 700 block on Franklin Street around 7 a.m., police said in a news release on Sunday.

A 20-year-old man told police he had been punched and slapped during an argument with the woman.

Police said the woman was arrested at the scene. She was held in custody and released on an undertaking once sober.

IMPAIRED DRIVING CAUSING BODILY HARM

A 22-year-old man is facing impaired driving charges in connection with an incident involving a woman who was hanging from the side of a moving truck, Brandon police say.

Police officers were initially dispatched to a residence in the 300 block of 11th Street around 4:30 a.m. on Saturday about an argument that had escalated between individuals in the home, Brandon Police Service Sgt. Paul McBeth said on Sunday.

While officers were on the way to the scene, a truck pulled out “recklessly” in front of police, leading officers to stop the driver, McBeth said.

Police determined the driver was impaired and he was charged with operating a vehicle with equal to or greater than the legal blood-alcohol concentration limit of 0.08 per cent.

Shortly after the man’s arrest, police found a 21-year-old woman laying on the ground unconscious in the 400 block of 11th Street.

At the time, it was unclear what had happened to the woman, McBeth said. She was given medical treatment and taken to the Brandon Regional Health Centre by ambulance for her injuries. It turns out, there was a connection to the driver police had stopped earlier.

“It was learned that she was initially hanging onto the side of the truck being driven by the impaired driver, who was arrested separately,” McBeth said.

The driver was given another charge for driving while impaired causing bodily harm.

He is scheduled to appear in court at a later date.
