Semi rolls on Trans-Canada
Two people travelling in a semi-truck were treated for their injuries after it rolled over on the Trans-Canada Highway in the Rural Municipality of Whitehead.
Brandon RCMP responded to the single-vehicle rollover on Saturday shortly before 3 p.m., an RCMP spokesperson told the Sun on Monday.
Mounties arrived at the scene and saw the semi was blocking an eastbound traffic lane.
Officers determined the semi was travelling east before it veered into the south ditch and was unable to steer back onto the road before tipping on its side.
Two occupants in the vehicle were treated by emergency medical services at the scene.
A man who was driving the semi received a ticket for driving carelessly under the Highway Traffic Act.
Impaired charges from December
A man is facing impaired driving charges in connection with a single-vehicle rollover that happened in December last year, Brandon police said on Monday.
The man, who was 23 at the time of the collision, was arrested on Sunday for dangerous operation of a motor vehicle, impaired operation of a motor vehicle and operating a motor vehicle with a blood-alcohol concentration exceeding 0.08 per cent.
On Dec. 7 around 1:30 a.m., police were called to a collision on First Street, just south of Kasuriak Bay.
Police saw a vehicle flipped onto its roof with a driver trapped inside.
Brandon Fire and Emergency Services were able to safely remove the driver, who was unconscious in the vehicle. He was rushed to the hospital with unknown injuries, police said.
Police requested a warrant to determine the driver’s blood-alcohol concentration. The results came back on Sunday and showed he had a blood-alcohol concentration of 0.214 per cent.
Police said the man has been released from custody and is scheduled to appear in court on Oct. 1.
