QUAD DRIVER CHARGED
A 36-year-old man is facing charges after police say he was driving an all-terrain vehicle erratically in downtown Brandon and resisted arrest.
On Wednesday, shortly after 9 a.m., officers were called to the 400 block of Princess Avenue for a report of a “suspicious person” driving a quad that was possibly stolen, police said in a news release on Thursday.
Officers found the man and tried to pull him over, but he sped away to evade them before he abandoned the quad and fled on foot, police said.
Police allege the suspect resisted arrest and shoved and scratched an officer on the neck.
The man was eventually arrested and charged with resisting arrest and assault with the intent to resist, police said.
Police determined the quad belonged to the man’s father and he had permission to use it.
The man was released on a notice to appear in court and has a future court date for Oct. 26.
APARTMENT BREAK-IN
Brandon police have charged an 18-year-old woman with breaking into an apartment.
Officers were called to an apartment building on the 1500 block of 26th Street for a report of someone screaming on Wednesday after 11 p.m. Police gave the woman a verbal warning to be quiet.
About two hours later, police received another complaint that the woman was making noise and banging on apartment doors in the hallway.
Officers returned to the building and said the woman allegedly kicked down an apartment door and rummaged through a tenant’s suite before leaving.
Police said the woman was intoxicated and was later arrested. She was charged with break and enter and held in custody until court on Wednesday.
