The Dock on Princess is set to host a free screening of The Tragically Hip’s final concert this Saturday to mark the band’s 10th anniversary farewell performance.

The screening, beginning at 7 p.m., is part of a Canada-wide CBC rebroadcast of “The Tragically Hip: A National Celebration,” which commemorates the band’s final show with frontman Gord Downie in Kingston, Ont., on Aug. 20, 2016.

The broadcast will feature a special introduction by filmmaker Mike Downie, Gord Downie’s brother, along with previously unseen behind-the-scenes footage and interviews before the full concert is rebroadcast.

Dock manager Erin Wells said the restaurant decided to participate after CBC invited venues across the country to screen the concert.

“It’s free to attend and just could be a good time,” Wells told the Sun. “Get everyone singing their favourites, maybe.”

The concert will be shown on the restaurant’s large flat-screen in the main pub.

Wells said The Dock expects to have space for about 30 to 40 additional people, depending on how busy the restaurant is before the screening.

“I think people are always looking for something fun to come out and do,” she said. “And I think Tragically Hip holds a special place in lots of people’s hearts in Canada.”

The Dock will serve its full menu during the event, including selections from its new summer menu, such as carnitas tacos, new nachos and a tostada burger, she said.

The Hip screening will be one of several music-related activities at The Dock on Saturday. If the restaurant’s expanded patio is ready and receives final approval, musician Matt Cory is scheduled to perform there at 4 p.m.

Wells said the patio project is an expansion of the restaurant, with the new patio four feet larger than the previous one and expected to provide seating for about 40 additional people.

The expanded area will include a large pergola, a lounge-style seating area and heaters designed to extend the patio season. Final inspections are still required before the patio can officially open.

The CBC broadcast will air nationally at 7 p.m. ET on CBC-TV and CBC Gem. It will begin with “A Beautiful Thing,” a short film by Mike Downie featuring behind-the-scenes footage from The Hip’s final tour and Canadians discussing the band’s significance.

Official screenings are also planned across several provinces and territories, as well as internationally.
