Girl accused of attempted stabbing

A 13-year-old Brandon girl has been charged after allegedly trying to stab a family member with a knife on Thursday evening.

Police said the youth attempted to stab an immediate relative but another family member intervened and called 911.

Officers were sent to the home and arrested the youth. She was charged with assault with a weapon and possession of a weapon.

The girl was processed at BPS headquarters and later released to a parent on an undertaking. She is scheduled to appear in court on Nov. 3.

Sexual assault charge

A 39-year-old Brandon man faces a sexual assault charge after a woman came forward in late July, police said Friday.

The woman, 25, reported being sexually assaulted several weeks earlier by a male suspect at a residence on the first block of Third Street.

The investigation determined the assault occurred on June 13, police said.

Officers located and arrested the accused at the residence on Thursday.

He was taken to police headquarters for processing and an interview. He was later released on an undertaking and is scheduled to appear in court on Oct. 15.
