Gas station mischief

A 31-year-old man was arrested after a glass door was smashed at a gas station in Brandon early Wednesday morning.

Brandon police officers responded to an alarm going off at a business on the 1200 block of First Street North around 1:45 a.m., police said in a news release Wednesday.

When officers arrived on scene, they saw the front door of the gas station had been broken with a rock and reviewed video surveillance to help identify a suspect.

Police located the suspect in the 900 block of Pacific Avenue and charged him with mischief under $5,000. During the arrest, police found the man was in possession of a folding knife.

The man was then charged with possession of a weapon, police said.

He was taken to the police station and was released on an undertaking once he was sober.

The man is scheduled to appear in court on Nov. 5.

Stolen cellphone

Brandon police have arrested a 62-year-old woman for allegedly stealing a cellphone on Tuesday.

Police received a report about a stolen cellphone that had been taken from an apartment on the 200 block on Ninth Street, police said Wednesday.

The suspect denied taking the phone and refused to give it back to its rightful owner, police said.

Officers said video surveillance showed the woman in possession of the device, and she was charged with theft under $5,000.

The woman was taken into custody and released on an undertaking with a future court date on Oct. 29.

Vehicle recovered

Brandon police have located a vehicle that was previously reported stolen.

Officers found the vehicle near the Rosser Gardens apartment building on 26th Street around 4 a.m. on Wednesday, police said.

The vehicle was unoccupied and towed to the police station for further investigation.

Police said the vehicle’s registered owner has been notified.

No other details were released about the vehicle or whether any suspects involved in the theft have been identified.
