A 19-year-old man has multiple injuries after he was attacked by a group of people — including two suspects armed with machetes — in Sapotaweyak Cree Nation early Tuesday morning, RCMP say.
Swan River RCMP responded to a report of a serious assault around 6 a.m. involving a victim who had been outside about two hours earlier when he was approached by individuals — some of whom were masked, police said in a news release on Wednesday.
Police said one person used bear spray on the victim before others joined in the assault, including two suspects brandishing machetes. The man suffered several injuries and lacerations across his body before managing to escape, RCMP said.
Two people from the First Nation were arrested without incident and charged in connection with the attack.
Trey Chartrand-McKay, 18, and a 15-year-old boy were charged with aggravated assault.
The boy was released on an undertaking and Chartrand-McKay was remanded into custody, RCMP said.
