Brandon Coun. Tyson Tame has been named the 2026 campaign chair for United Way West Central Manitoba.
The campaign, called Planting Possibilities, was announced Wednesday afternoon during an event held at the Keystone Centre.
Tame said he felt humbled when United Way approached him to be chair.

“Getting the call was (like), ‘No, you have got the wrong guy,’” he laughed, noting fundraising work done by previous campaign chairs.
“I took on this role because it’s something that I believe in personally,” Tame said in his speech.
“I’m a fairly busy person, but once I dug into the platform, it was impossible to say no,” he said.
This year’s fundraising goal was not released, but the announcement was not about numbers, said Cynamon Mychasiw, president and chief executive officer of United Way West Central Manitoba.
“The numbers matter, and there will be time for those, but they will come a little bit later on,” Mychasiw told the room of attendees at the Keystone Centre. “Today is about a story.”
The story she referred to was that of the Ward 10 Brandon city councillor and campaign chair.
Tame, who is a registered candidate in the October election, said his work campaigning for re-election and as United Way campaign chair will remain separate.
He said there is no conflict of interest between the election and fundraising campaigns, but that he did receive the blessing of Mayor Jeff Fawcett.
“This work is extremely important and personal to me, and so it will take a priority in my life at this time,” Tame said, referring to his work with United Way.
Mychasiw said Tame’s personal connection to the work is part of the reason they approached him.
Tame told the room a lot of his life story — including expulsions from schools, being bullied, receiving mental health diagnoses, juvenile delinquency and other details — which all led to his key point: youth empowerment through adversity.
“Imagine if we could reach someone at 12 years old, what if we could reach them at eight?” he said in his speech. “Then the Brandon Mental Health Centre may not even be in the story. The getting into mischief from juvenile delinquency, perhaps that could have been skipped,” he said, drawing from his own experience.
“I believe that young people need someone in their corner (and) communities are stronger when we show up to a crisis before it lands,” he added.
“The focus of Planting Possibilities is to reach those young people prior to crisis ever becoming a part of their story.”
The Planting Possibilities campaign will officially launch on Sept. 21 with a flag-raising event at city hall. Mychasiw said the campaign’s fundraising goal will be announced then.
