A 51-year-old man faces multiple charges, including two counts of break and enter, following a standoff with Brandon RCMP on Tuesday.
Mounties were called to two residential break-ins in Forrest involving a man who forced his way into homes, began yelling and then left when confronted by the homeowners.
No one was injured during either incident, with the first break-in occurring around 3:40 a.m. and the second taking place soon after, RCMP said in a news release on Thursday.
Officers identified the suspect and patrolled the community in an effort to locate him, but they were unsuccessful at the time, police said.
The suspect was found later that day by Brandon Police Service officers, who transported him to a hospital for medical treatment.
At about 7:10 p.m., RCMP were called to the suspect’s residence in Forrest after he had left the hospital, police said.
They spoke with the man, who was in another room behind a closed door. As the conversation continued, police suspected he may have been armed, so officers left the residence to secure a perimeter around the home.
The suspect agreed to exit his home at 9:45 p.m. and was taken into police custody, RCMP said.
Three firearms and ammunition were found inside the home.
The man also faces charges of possession of a weapon for a dangerous purpose, unauthorized possession of a firearm, careless use of a firearm and failing to comply with a condition of his release order, RCMP said.
He was remanded into custody.
