The Provincial Exhibition of Manitoba has named Jordan Sisson as its chief executive officer.
The organization announced the appointment in a news release on Thursday.
Sisson served as former premier Heather Stefanson’s chief of staff and was most recently the CEO of communications and public relations firm Strategize Inc.
In his new role, Sisson will work alongside the Provincial Ex board of directors, staff, volunteers and community partners “to advance the organization’s strategic priorities and explore new opportunities to strengthen its events, operations and long-term sustainability,” the release said.
Sisson told the Sun on Friday that he believes this marks the first time the Provincial Exhibition has had a CEO, as it was previously led by a general manager.
The change in the leadership position at the organization is “what is required” at this time, Sisson said.
“Holding the role of CEO will send a message to our stakeholders, event partners, sponsors and of course event patrons that change is on the horizon,” Sisson said in a text message.
“And growth will surely come from that change.”
The organization chose Sisson for his connection to Westman and his expertise, Provincial Exhibition president Tim Rowan said in Thursday’s news release.
“Jordan brings a diverse and valuable skill set to the role, along with a strong understanding of our community, our organization and the opportunities that lie ahead,” Rowan said.
“We are incredibly excited about the future and believe Jordan has the experience, leadership and vision needed to help grow and strengthen the Provincial Exhibition for generations to come.”
Sisson said in a statement that there is a tremendous foundation to build upon and that he believes the future of the Provincial Exhibition is “incredibly bright.”
“I am excited to get to work, listen to our stakeholders and help lead an organization that has such a proud history toward a big and exciting future.”
The board of directors is focused on building upon the exhibition’s legacy while identifying new opportunities for growth, innovation and community engagement, the organization said.
Sisson said he will remain as the principal at Strategize Inc., which is a member of the Brandon Chamber of Commerce.
