Police detained the woman. She was scheduled to appear in court on Tuesday.

Domestic violence

A woman was taken to the Brandon Regional Health Centre on Monday evening after she was injured during a domestic assault.

Officers were called to a residence in Cornell Bay around 6:40 p.m. for a report of a man assaulting a woman outside, Brandon police said in a news release on Tuesday.

Police said witnesses saw the man repeatedly punching the woman when he was on top of her.

The woman declined providing a statement to police and went to the hospital. Police said the man and woman were in a relationship and both parties were intoxicated.

A 36-year-old man was arrested and charged with assault. He was released on an undertaking with a Nov. 16 court date.

Shoplifting arrest

A 47-year-old man was arrested for allegedly shoplifting $116 worth of merchandise at a business on Monday, police say.

Officers were called to the business on the 900 block of Victoria Avenue for a reported theft.

Police arrested the suspect at the scene and charged him with theft under $5,000.

The man was later released on an undertaking and is scheduled to appear in court on Nov. 19, police said.
