SUSPICIOUS MAN WITH MACHETE
A man was arrested on Wednesday evening after Brandon police say he was “acting suspiciously” while in possession of a machete.
Officers stopped a pedestrian around 8 p.m. near the 800 block of Southern Avenue after they saw him running across the road while wearing a balaclava, police said in a news release on Thursday.
Police said the man had a machete, which violated conditions of his court order.
He was detained and charged with possession of a weapon. He was scheduled to appear in court on Thursday morning, police said.
AMAZON PACKAGES STOLEN
A woman has been arrested in connection with an incident involving two Amazon packages being stolen on Wednesday evening.
Around 7:45 p.m., police received a report about two packages valued at $144 that had been stolen from the front step of a residence on the 600 block of 14th Street, police said on Thursday.
Footage from the home’s doorbell camera helped police identify a suspect.
A 31-year-old woman was located in The Town Centre parkade around 3:30 a.m. The suspect was charged with theft under $5,000 and was later released on an undertaking with a future court date of Nov. 19.
FORMER PARTNER ASSAULT
A 20-year-old man was arrested after police say he assaulted a former intimate partner.
Brandon police allege they came across the man who was harming a woman in the 1700 block of Victoria Avenue around 8:35 p.m. on Wednesday.
The man was charged with assault and was released on an undertaking with a future court date on Nov. 5.
BEEF JERKY THEFT
Brandon police arrested a man on Wednesday for stealing about $35 worth of merchandise from a business.
Officers received a report around 8:20 a.m. about a theft that occurred at a business on the 800 block of First Street.
Police identified a 46-year-old man as a suspect and allege he stole several packages of beef jerky and an energy drink.
When officers found the man, he had empty beef jerky wrappers in his back pocket, police said.
Police allege the man also stole merchandise from a business on the 3500 block of Victoria Avenue on Aug. 8.
The suspect was charged with two counts of theft under $5,000. He was scheduled to appear in court on Thursday morning.
