A 41-year-old man was released on bail on Monday after he allegedly smashed a window at Brandon’s police station using a sledgehammer and assaulted an officer.
Aaron Dietz faces several charges, including mischief over $5,000, assaulting a police officer with a weapon and resisting arrest, police said in a news release on Sunday.
Police allege Dietz swung a sledgehammer at one of the large police station windows, shattering both the outer and inner panes, around 9:30 a.m. on Saturday.

Dietz was immediately confronted by police, who say he refused to stop walking away and drop his weapon when officers ordered him to.
As he turned to face police, officers tried to use a Taser on him without success.
Dietz continued toward the intersection of 10th Street and Victoria Avenue, where he was “challenged” by another officer equipped with a less-than-lethal munitions weapon, police said.
He refused to follow police orders before an officer used the weapon on him and he subsequently dropped the sledgehammer.
Police said he still refused to surrender and was “physically” taken into custody.
Dietz appeared in Brandon provincial court on Monday morning before Judge Shauna Hewitt-Michta for his bail hearing.
Crown attorney Melania Cannon consented to his release from custody on conditions that he not have any contact with three members of the Brandon Police Service unless within the officers’ working duties and not go within 100 metres of the police station.
He also must not possess or consume any alcohol and illicit drugs or own, carry or possess a weapon or ammunition. If he violates any of these conditions, he will be required to pay $1,000, Cannon said.
None of the allegations have been proven in court.
