Brandon realtor Ketan Patel has thrown his name in to run for city councillor in Ward 8.
Patel said road safety, taxes and snow clearing are some of the main concerns he has heard while door knocking.
“I want to be a voice for Ward 8 residents and take their concerns to the city council,” Patel told the Sun in an interview last month.

Patel faces incumbent councillor Jason Splett and Dhara Patel in the Oct. 28 election. The two Patels aren’t related to each other.
Patel said his experience as a realtor, which includes talking to a lot of homebuyers and residents, has shown that the cost of living is a major concern for Brandonites.
“I think that that will help me represent them better at the council,” he said.
His experience on the boards of Assiniboine College and Westman Immigrant Services will also help him when it comes to the city’s budget and the municipality’s finances, Patel said.
He said serving as the Westman Cricket Association’s president also made him realize the exorbitant cost of playing at city facilities, which is something he would like to bring up as a councillor.
“I’m a cricket player and I know, for example, at a non-profit organization, the cost of playing cricket in Brandon is very high,” he said.
To serve effectively as a councillor, people need to have experience in governance, he said, adding that he fits that description.
“I do understand the housing market and shortage of the housing and cost of new homes and stuff. So, that will help me create policies if needed regarding the housing at the city level,” he said.
“Ward 8 residents deserve a voice that listen or representative that listen and take their concerns to the city level.”
Patel was previously the general manager of Fired Pizzaria, which operated between late 2017 and late 2019.
