BRANDON UNIVERSITY
The fall equinox will be the topic for BU Teachings House on Tuesday from 11:30 a.m. to 1 p.m., in the He Oyate Tawapi Ceremony Room (Room 141) of the Health Studies complex. Knowledge keepers will mark the change of the season, a time of gratitude, reflection and preparation for a new season. All are invited.
The Science Seminar Series returns on Tuesday with a talk by visiting Mexican biologist Rosa María Chávez Dagostino. She will talk about governments working together to promote sustainable development that enhances natural and cultural heritage in Jalisco, Mexico. The talk will begin at 1 p.m., in Room 4-47 of the John R. Brodie Science Centre. It will also be viewable online. Email TeepleH@BrandonU.ca for details.
Arts Day is planned for Wednesday in the Gathering Space of the John E. Robbins Library. The events will include an artist talk at 1:30 p.m., by BU alumna and current instructor Melanie Barnett, followed by a reading by Dominique Hétu from her recent prize-winning poetry collection at 2:15 p.m. The keynote address, at 4:30 p.m., will be a talk by Stanley Knowles Distinguished Visiting Professor Jessica Riddell. The topic of her talk will be The Future of the Public University: Humanities, Hope and Civic Imagination.
Following his concert at the Western Manitoba Centennial Auditorium on Sunday, acclaimed Indigenous artist Jeremy Dutcher will visit the Lorne Watson Recital Hall for a morning of conversation on Sept. 28 from 10 to 11:30. This special event will explore Indigenous music and anthropology, with discussion about linguistic and cultural revitalization, archival work and the ways music can connect us to language, history and community. The session will include time for questions from the audience. Monday’s conversation is free to attend, and all are welcome. Tickets for Sunday’s concert are available at WMCA.ca.
The Bobcats women’s rugby team has a couple of matches scheduled for the coming week. The ‘Cats will host Mount Royal University on Friday at 4:30 p.m., and the Southern Alberta Institute of Technology on Sunday at 9 a.m. Both matches will take place at John Reilly Field.
