Eight people were arrested in Dauphin this week as part of a targeted operation focused on “prolific offenders,” RCMP say.
The initiative was part of ongoing efforts to curb retail theft.
The arrests, which took place on Sept. 18 and Tuesday, involved mutiple Dauphin residents:
• A 22-year-old man wanted in connection with a recent robbery in Dauphin. Police say they seized two knives after searching the suspect. He was charged with possessing weapons for a dangerous purpose and was remanded into custody.
• A 33-year-old woman wanted on a warrant for a residential break and enter. She was arrested and released on an undertaking.
• A 35-year-old man, who police say breached court-ordered conditions to stay away from a retail business following shoplifting incidents. He was released on an appearance notice.
• A 28-year-old woman who police say was breaching her release order. She was released on a release order by the Crown.
• A 48-year-old man who police say was breaching his curfew and other court-ordered conditions. He was remanded into custody.
As well, a Prince Albert, Sask., couple was arrested following a theft at a local retail store, just hours after the couple was released from custody following a court appearance on weapons-related and other offences.
Police say they found a concealed weapon and break-in instruments during the arrest.
MacKenzie Cameron, 25, was charged with theft under $5,000 and failure to comply with a release order. Zachary McDougall, 27, was charged with possessing a weapon for a dangerous purpose, possession of break-in instruments and failure to comply with a release order.
The two were remanded into custody.
Police also arrested a 37-year-old Brandon man who allegedly fled from officers following a retail theft. The suspect was subsequently identified by investigators, who learned he was wanted on an arrest warrant.
He was arrested on Sept. 24 and faces charges of theft and resisting and obstructing a peace officer. He was released on an undertaking.
Officers also ticketed eight people during the operation.
Six people were ticketed for trespassing while two others were issued tickets for consuming liquor in public. A handful of traffic tickets and warnings were also issued, police say.
The initiative was led by the RCMP’s Manitoba West District General Investigation Section. Dauphin RCMP, Ste. Rose du Lac RCMP and the Manitoba West District Crime Reduction Enforcement Support Team supported the investigation.
