POWER OUTAGES
At least seven power outages were reported to Manitoba Hydro around the city of Brandon on Wednesday evening, affecting about 4,593 customers.
The outages seem to have occurred at different times around the western and southern parts of the city, between 6:30 p.m. and 7:40 p.m.
Manitoba Hydro’s website suggests that the cause of the outages had yet to be determined as of 8:30 p.m. Wednesday.
Estimated power restoration varied between 9:30 p.m. and 11 p.m.
COCAINE BUST
Brandon police arrested a woman after finding 15 packaged bags of cocaine, nearly $5,000 in cash and open liquor in a vehicle that was pulled over on Tuesday night.
Officers stopped the vehicle around 11:30 p.m. in the 2400 block of Park Avenue and saw opened alcohol inside, police said in a news release on Wednesday.
When all four occupants were removed from the vehicle, police saw evidence of drugs inside.
Police found baggies of cocaine and searched the suspect’s purse, where they found $4,850 in cash, the release said.
A 40-year-old woman was charged with possession of cocaine for the purpose of drug trafficking, possession of proceeds obtained by crime and two counts of failing to comply with a release order prohibiting her from possessing illicit drugs.
The release order was issued on Sept. 29 and stemmed from multiple previous drug and weapons offences, police said.
The woman was taken into police custody and was scheduled to appear in court on Wednesday.
BREACH OF CONDITIONS
A 25-year-old man was arrested Tuesday night after Brandon police allege he breached conditions prohibiting him from communicating with his previous partner.
At around 11:35 p.m., officers were called to an apartment on the 300 block of 10th Street for a report of a man fighting with a 24-year-old woman, police said Wednesday.
The suspect was bound by court conditions prohibiting him from contacting her based on a previous assault, police said.
Officers believe both parties were intoxicated at the time of the incident. Police said the woman would not provide details on what happened.
The man was charged with breaching an undertaking and was taken to the police station.
