DAUPHIN ROAD RAGE
A driver in Dauphin is facing charges in two “apparent” road rage incidents on Tuesday evening, Mounties say.
RCMP responded to the first incident around 6:20 p.m. involving two motorists near the intersection of Ninth Avenue and Second Street Southwest in Dauphin, RCMP said in a news release on Thursday.
Police said a 31-year-old man was waiting at a four-way stop when an SUV drove up beside him. The male driver of the SUV pulled out a knife and made gestures that he was going to open the man’s door before the victim left the scene, RCMP said.
Not long after, the same SUV was involved in an incident in the 1400 block of Main Street South. RCMP said the suspect got out of his vehicle and acted erratically toward passengers in another vehicle.
The man then got back in his vehicle and was seen driving toward a nearby hotel, police said.
RCMP located the SUV parked at the hotel and arrested the man inside the building around 7 p.m.
Dylan Smith, 30, of Valley River First Nation was charged with assault with a weapon and possession of a weapon for a dangerous purpose.
He was released from custody on a release order with a future court date.
ARRESTED ON WARRANT
A man with an RCMP warrant out for his arrest was taken into police custody in Brandon during an incident involving a woman experiencing an overdose.
Police were initially called for a report of a fight in a back lane on the 400 block of 12th Street on Wednesday shortly before 10 p.m., police said in a news release on Thursday.
When police arrived at the scene, they saw a man attempting to help a woman who had overdosed. Police said no fight had occurred between the two parties.
Paramedics arrived on scene and provided medical assistance to the woman, police said.
Officers took the 53-year-old man into custody on an unendorsed warrant for his arrest in the Portage la Prairie area, where he was wanted on charges of identity fraud and two counts of failing to comply with an undertaking.
The man was scheduled to appear in court on Thursday morning.
