Brandon University has received $591,354 in funding from the federal government’s Research Support Fund for the 2026-27 fiscal year.

The contribution increased by 6.1 per cent from the $557,284 received last year.

The fund is a permanent initiative designed to help post-secondary institutions offset the indirect costs of managing federally funded research.

It is administered jointly by the Canadian Institutes of Health Research, the Natural Sciences and Engineering Research Council, and the Social Sciences and Humanities Research Council.

The funding will continue to support the operations of the office of the vice-president for research and graduate studies, particularly by funding most of the salaries for the staff who manage BU’s research administration, BU said in a news release Thursday.

This year’s allocation also supports a new addition to the office — Faye Noohi, who joined the team as research compliance and policy officer. In this role, Noohi focuses on research governance and policy development.

The RSF award reflects the continued growth of BU’s research enterprise, Bernadette Ardelli, vice-president for research and graduate studies, said in the release.

“It allows us to keep investing in the people and infrastructure that support our researchers, so faculty and students can stay focused on the work that matters most: advancing knowledge,” Ardelli said.
