After three weeks of spooky scares and trembling terrors, volunteers from Big Brothers Big Sisters of Westman are gearing up for its last night of spine-chilling sights before Halloween.
For more than 20 years, Big Brothers Big Sisters (BBBS) have organized a haunted house. This year, the attraction is set up inside the Livingstone Outdoor greenhouse and has been open Wednesday through Saturday from 6 to 11 p.m.
Tonight is the last chance to try the thrilling experience, but if jump-scares that cause ear-splitting screams aren’t your cup of tea, the no-scare hour is from 6 to 7 p.m.

For BBBS, the annual event is the “flagship fundraiser” for the organization, said executive director Ashley Taron.
“This is our largest fundraiser of the year, and we get approximately a third of our operating budget from this one,” Taron said. “It’s a really big deal for us.”
Big Brothers Big Sisters of Westman pair youth with an adult with shared interests to build a positive relationship through a one-on-one mentorship program. It also hosts group and in-school mentorship.
Taron estimates the fundraiser raised around $30,000 last year, and hopes this year can surpass that amount.
“We have many volunteers that pour their heart and soul into it, and they get a lot of joy out of this every year,” Taron said.
Ashley Taron arranges some costume masks on Thursday afternoon that are used by volunteers for the haunted house fundraiser at Livingstone Outdoor.
“In my opinion, they’ve outdone themselves this year,” she said.
“We send people through, and there’s a mix of hallways and rooms and then we have a mix of animatronics and of actors, but for us, it’s the people that make it.”
There are also strobe lights, themed rooms and the experience is wheelchair accessible.
“It’s kind of one of those things that brings out the kid in everyone. There’s something about being scared that gives you a nice little adrenaline rush,” Taron said.
“We’ve had just over 2,000 people through the haunted house so far, and we’re really hoping that this week knocks the last couple of weeks out of the park,” she said.
A giant motorized spider is one of the many attractions at the Big Brothers Big Sisters of Westman’s annual haunted house fundraiser.
Admission for the haunted house is $10 for ages 12 and up, and $7 for children under 12.
