IIU investigating complaint of broken ribs

Manitoba’s police watchdog is investigating after a man reported he had broken ribs after an arrest by RCMP officers near Dauphin.

In late March, a man filed a complaint with the Civilian Review and Complaints Commission for the RCMP about injuries during a July 29, 2020 arrest, according to a press release.

The man reported he had broken ribs as a result, which is a serious injury and the Independent Investigations Unit of Manitoba is mandated to investigate. The incident itself happened near the intersection of Highway 20 and Road 153 north in the Rural Municipality of Dauphin.

Any witnesses or anyone with video footage is asked to contact the IIU at 1-844-667-6060.

The IIU is still investigating and no more details were provided on Tuesday.
