Ukrainian flag-raising happening Sunday
The City of Brandon will host a flag-raising at city hall during a rally in support of Ukraine Sunday.
At 4 p.m., Mayor Rick Chrest will raise the Ukrainian flag along with other dignitaries. The national anthems of both Canada and Ukraine will be played.
Those attending are encouraged to bring Ukrainian flags, candles and other items showing support for the country as it defends itself against an military invasion by Russia.
Once raised, the flag will fly for four days and nights.
“Brandon is currently home to many Ukrainians, and people from Ukraine have played a significant role throughout the history of Brandon and our region,” Chrest stated in a media release.
“We stand in solidarity with the people of Ukraine both at home and abroad against the Russian invasion. We add our voices to the provincial and federal governments that call for Russia to end its aggression so that peace can be restored in the region. We are proud to stand with our community again on Sunday to show the enduring support for the people of Ukraine.”
