Manitoba Parks stopped accepting reservations for cabins, yurts, group-use areas and for the Birds Hill Provincial Park campground, about four hours after the province’s booking system for the season officially opened Monday morning.
At 7 a.m., the reservation site for booking a campsite at one of Manitoba’s provincial parks opened. By 11:25 a.m., ticket number 32, 507 had been issued. By 12:09 p.m., a parks representative at Manitoba Parks Seasonal Camping Program explained there were no more sites available for the season.
The Manitoba Parks Facebook group exploded with comments from frustrated people voicing their opinion of the reservation system Manitoba Parks uses. The most prevalent comment was the reservation system lacked organization and booted people out before they were able to secure a campsite.
Overall, the experience was disappointing for the vast majority of potential campers according to the Facebook group, “Manitoba Parks”, comments. One person said she was very disappointed. “Didn’t get anything! System crashed and by the time I could get back, everything was booked up. I am very unhappy!”
“Today has been a spectacular disaster. Very disappointed,” was another comment. Overall, no one had anything positive to say about their experience while attempting to book a provincial park campsite online.
Reservations for campgrounds at Winnipeg Beach, Betula Lake, Big Whiteshell, Brereton Lake, Caddy Lake, Falcon Beach, Falcon Lakeshore, Nutimik Lake, Opapiskaw, Otter Falls, West Hawk Lake and White Lake will open Wednesday, April 7 at 7 a.m.
Campsite reservations for all remaining provincial parks will open Monday, April 12 at 7 a.m.
