Applications for the City of Brandon and the Brandon Chamber of Commerce’s new economic restart program are now open.
First mentioned in Mayor Rick Chrest’s state of the city address in May and approved by Brandon City Council last month, the Brandon Economic Restart Program encourages businesses in the city to invest in themselves and in the local economy.
Businesses can make a purchase involving professional services, marketing, technology improvements, furniture and equipment and then apply for a one-time grant of up to $2,500.
To qualify, a business must have started operating in Brandon on or before July 12, 2020, must be able to show their net income has been negatively affected by the COVID-19 pandemic and be able to invest at least 10 per cent of the cost of the purchase from their own funds.
Purchases eligible for the program must have been made on or after July 13, 2021 through Dec. 31, 2021.
Applications will be considered on a first-come, first-serve basis until the program’s end date or until the $250,000 set aside for the program has been used up.
