After moving some students to remote learning earlier this week, public health officially declared a COVID-19 outbreak at Meadows School on Friday.

The Brandon School Division institution has endured a variety of COVID exposures throughout December, with cases being uncovered in Grade 5/6, Grade 1/2 and kindergarten classes.

As of Friday afternoon, public health has registered at least seven COVID cases attached to Meadows in the two weeks prior to Dec. 14, according to the province’s COVID tracking map.

Because of these recent exposures, BSD and the province decided to move a Grade 5/6 class to remote learning on Wednesday, with these students set to return to in-person instruction on Jan. 6, 2022.

A BSD official told the Sun on Friday that no other class at Meadows has been moved to remote learning at this time.

According to a Thursday letter to parents that was obtained by the Sun, declaring an outbreak allows public health officials to more quickly assess ongoing COVID-19 transmission patterns within the affected groups.

Elsewhere in the division, at least 13 other BSD schools are currently contending with COVID-19 cases.

These exposure sites, as of Friday afternoon, include Riverheights School, Vincent Massey High School, Linden Lanes School, J.R. Reid School, Neelin High School, École New Era School, St. Augustine School, King George School, Riverview School, George Fitton School, Crocus Plains Regional Secondary School, École Harrison and Spring Valley Colony School.
