With toilet paper flying off of the shelves at an astonishing rate at Brandon retailers, it might seem that an impending shortage could be near.

However, that’s not the case according to a couple of local stores.

Brendan Chudley, grocery manager at the Heritage Co-op Food Store, told the Sun on Friday that while they were out of stock of toilet paper, they anticipated they would continue to receive regularly scheduled shipments.

Chudley said the shipments might be smaller than usual as Co-op attempts to make sure that all of its locations are well-stocked.

Adam Grachnik, Walmart’s director of corporate affairs, told the Sun via email that the company is “doing our best to continue stocking our stores with the products our customers are asking for right now – hand sanitizer, paper products, cleaning supplies and non-perishables.”

He added they were putting in work to make sure the prices of these items don’t start to climb. He noted employees forced to self-isolate or who are confirmed to have a case of COVID-19 would be placed on paid leave.

A request for comment from Loblaws, the parent company for Superstore and Shoppers Drug Mart, was not returned. A request for comment from Sobeys corporate on the status of local Sobeys and Safeway locations was also not returned.
