A former political mainstay in Westman has reentered politics at the municipal level.
Former Turtle Mountain Progressive Conservative MLA and Brandon-Souris Conservative MP Merv Tweed has been elected mayor of the Municipality of Killarney-Turtle Mountain in Wednesday’s mayoral byelection.
Tweed earned 668 votes to competitor Matthew Reimer’s 493. According to Ernie Epp, whose company Way To Go Consulting Inc. ran the byelection, there was a 45 per cent voter turnout.

Former Killarney Mayor Rick Pauls resigned last December after 13 and a half years on the job to pursue a new employment opportunity.
Deputy Mayor Janice Smith has been acting as head of council since Pauls’ departure.
