Hey there, time traveller!

Brandon University released its fall plan late Thursday afternoon, including its own colour-coded pandemic response system.

The fall term begins in the blue phase, which has the strictest operational guidelines — with most educational activities delivered remotely and a campus closed to the general public.

The university advises all relevant information, where students can chat live with BU employees in student services, can be found at a new dedicate website: BrandonU.ca/Coronavirus

The new website also contains broad guidelines for a future phased reopening — when the COVID-19 threat reduces and the university can move to the grey phase, with moderate restrictions, and the gold phase, with some limitations.

The university stated the made-in-Brandon plan draws extensively on the epidemiology experience of its dean of science, Bernadette Ardelli.

The plan is intended to be “infinitely flexible.”

“Every department and area on campus has worked extremely hard since the spring to make sure students would be able to complete their courses — as safely as possible for those courses that need hand-on, in-person instruction, and as effectively as possible for those we can offer online and remotely,” BU president David Docherty said.

“Brandon University is built on the relationships that develop between students, faculty and staff, and our ability to get to know each other in genuine ways is a key feature of campus life,” stated Katie Gross, BU’s dean of student services.

“We are going to keep that going, even online, by making sure that students have a direct opportunity to ask questions of a real person, to say hi, and to connect with us in real time.”

Most staff will continue to work from home, although increased student supports for the fall term will bring more employees to campus, and all employees continue to have access to their workspaces and campus facilities as needed, according to the release.

Major fall events, including orientation and homecoming, will either take place online or be cancelled.

A decision about the winter term will be made by the end of October.
