The Riverbank Discovery Centre will be co-hosting a Fall Fest this Saturday.
In partnership with Made in Manitoba, more than 40 makers and sellers will be selling their pre-Christmas wares, said James Montgomery, general manager of Brandon Riverbank Inc.
“We’ve had a great experience hosting the market at the riverbank this summer,” he said.
This fall, co-hosts Gold Leaf Events and Brandon Riverbank Inc. hope to help bring the community together through the event, he said.
A pumpkin patch, food trucks, giveaways throughout the day, free Halloween treat bags, free coffee and random market cash will also be given away at the fest.
That evening, a free movie will start at dusk in Festival Park at the Fusion Credit Union Stage.
The movie is an American stop-motion animated dark fantasy-horror film called “Coraline.” The film is from Henry Selick, who also directed “The Nightmare Before Christmas.”
Montgomery said it’s the first time an event like this has been held at the Riverbank.
“We just kind of came up with it. It’s been a crazy couple of years.”
Saturday’s market will be the largest one so far, he said.
“We’re hoping for future events. The market has indicated it would like to be back every other week.”
Included in the day will be the Indigenous market as part of the Truth and Reconciliation Week events. Paws Crossed will be collecting donations for its new animal rescue and adoption organization as well as donations for the United Way for the 1400 Pacific Ave. fire relief fund.
Montgomery saidthe United Way might also be collecting items that day.
“Once we know what those items are, we will be encouraging the public to bring those items to the movie and they will be donated to the affected residents afterward.”
With a maximum capacity of 500 people allowed at outdoor events, Montgomery said they will be keeping track of numbers and reminding people to stay physically distanced. Staff will be monitoring access points to the event and counting heads as the day progresses. Handwashing stations will be on-site as well.
