Possession of a weapon

At 11:25 p.m. on Saturday, police were called to a disturbance in the area of 10th Street and Pacific Avenue.

When officers arrived on the scene, they observed a male exit a building up the street. The suspect ran when he saw police and as he did, he threw an item into the alley.

A 21-year-old male was apprehended by the officers and the item, which turned out to be a can of bear spray, was recovered.

He was arrested for possession of a weapon and has since been released with a court date of June 30.

Arrest warrant executed

At 12:10 a.m. on Sunday, police conducted a pedestrian check in the 600 block of Princess Avenue.

A 25-year-old female was found to be the subject of a warrant for assaulting a peace officer and obstructing a peace officer.

As a result of the warrant being unendorsed, she was held in court for an appearance on Sunday.

Traffic stop leads to arrest

Close to 9 p.m. on Saturday, BPS conducted a traffic stop in the 1000 block of Lorne Avenue.

The driver of the vehicle, a 23-year-old male, was found to be the subject of a warrant of arrest from Killarney RCMP for public mischief.

He was arrested and is set to appear in court on Aug. 9 in Killarney.

Theft of vehicle

Around noon on Saturday, BPS received a report of a stolen blue 2019 Ford Explorer with Manitoba licence plate FKE 349.

The vehicle was stolen from a driveway on the 1700 block of 10th Street between 4:40 a.m. and 11 a.m.

The theft is still under investigation.

Suspect sought after teen stabbed

At about 3:30 p.m. Saturday, officers were called regarding a 15-year-old male who had gone to hospital with multiple stab wounds.

The male had been assaulted in the area of the 500 block between Sixth and Seventh streets just prior to going to the hospital. He sustained stab wounds to his torso and he was being treated for what is believed to be non-life-threatening injuries.

A suspect has been identified and the assailant is known to the victim. The matter is still an ongoing investigation and the suspect had not been located as of Sunday morning.

Attack on wrong house

At 5:30 a.m. on Saturday, BPS received a call from the 900 block of Maryland Avenue reporting someone had smashed their window and deployed bear spray into the house.

Officers have since arrested a 16-year-old male and charged him with assault with a weapon, possession of a dangerous weapon and mischief to property.

The investigation revealed it was a targeted attack, but the suspects got the wrong address and were targeting someone else. The investigation is still ongoing with a second suspect still being sought.

Impaired driver and refusal

On Saturday around 6 a.m., officers were called regarding a broken down vehicle at Sixth Street and Victoria Avenue. They observed a 2021 Kia Seltos with extensive damage to the front end and roof. The 32-year-old male driver appeared to be under the influence of an unknown substance.

Initially, the male complied with drug testing to determine if the driver was under the influence of a drug. During the process of the test, the male refused to co-operate and as a result was charged with refusal.

A further investigation revealed that he was involved in a collision earlier in the morning with a light post in the 300 block of Richmond Avenue.

He is scheduled to appear in court on May 9.

Teen robbed at knifepoint

Police received a 911 call at 1:20 a.m. on Saturday reporting a robbery in the 1200 block of 10th Street.

A 13-year-old girl said was approached by a man on a bike who demanded she hand over her backpack and a struggle ensued. The suspect then took out a large knife and began to swing it at her, cutting her hands in the process and taking her backpack. The victim was taken to hospital for treatment of non life-threatening injuries.

The suspect is described as Indigenous, 16 or 17 years of age with curly hair.

Motorist faces impaired driving charge

Around 4:50 p.m. on Friday, police received a call of a possible impaired driver in the area of the 600 block of First Street North.

The caller said they witnessed a pickup truck strike the curb several times until the vehicle sustained such damage that it could no longer be driven. Officers arrived on the scene and found the Chevy Silverado hung up on the curb with what appeared to be a broken axle. The 23-year-old man who was driving was arrested for impaired driving.

He was taken to the Brandon Police Service station, where he provided two samples of his breath resulting in readings in excess of three times the legal limit.

The accused has since been released from custody but will appear in court to answer to charges of driving over .08 and impaired driving.

Knife found on shoplifting suspect

On Friday around 12:30 p.m., officers were investigating a shoplifting call on the 900 block of Victoria Avenue.

Officers found a man who matched the description of the suspect. During the course of the investigation, they found a spring-loaded knife on the 42-year-old, which is a prohibited weapon.

He was arrested for its possession as well as failing to comply with his release order that stated he was not to possess weapons. He was to appear in court on Saturday.
