Heating up the ebrandon.ca message boards, Kam Lung Chinese Restaurant closed without warning a few weeks ago.
With no details posted either online or on the building itself and the business’s phone number ringing unanswered, many people have been speculating as to why the restaurant has closed, with various contradictory theories bouncing around online.
Yesterday, a small construction crew was seen at work renovating its interior, but were unable to provide contact information for the business’s owner.
The City of Brandon has confirmed that two permits were issued for the business in January, including one for a new pylon sign and another for interior renovations.
As of press time, there had been no indication of a change in use, indicating that the building would continue to function as a restaurant.
Kam Lung celebrated its grand reopening in 2012, when owner Patrick Sun and his wife Nan invited the public to join them for authentic Chinese dishes and cultural entertainment.
The Suns took ownership of the longtime Brandon landmark from Sergio and Susan Lee, who operated Kam Lung at 2330 Victoria Ave. for 37 years, in 2010.
The 2012 reopening included a reimagining of what he restaurant could be, with everything from the food served to its interior updated.
