Brandon police are investigating after someone allegedly tried to steal an ATM machine from a North Hill business early Tuesday morning.
At approximately 3 a.m., police responded to a report of a break-in at the Boston Pizza, just north of the Trans-Canada Highway.
Police say a white Ford Escape backed through the front glass of the business and a person threw a tow rope around an ATM at the front of the business.
They then tried to drive away with it, but the attempt was unsuccessful, police say. The ATM was damaged in the process.
The suspect vehicle was last seen driving west on Grand Valley Road, according to police. The licence place of the vehicle is not known.
When the Sun visited the location Tuesday morning, there was a wood board covering a window at Boston Pizza.
The investigation is still in the early stages and police don’t know if the incident is tied to organized crime, said Brandon police public information officer Sgt. Kirby Sararas.
“Without knowing who these suspects are … if it is part of a bigger group, we simply don’t have that information,” she said.
The Boston Pizza location on the North Hill was built in 2016 and was the second to open in Brandon.
Anyone with information regarding the attempted theft is encouraged to contact Brandon Police Service at 204-729-2345 or https://www.brandon.ca/police-contact/police-contact.
