Hey there, time traveller!

The family of a man slain near Russell in 2019 says they can begin to heal after two men were charged in the death on Wednesday.
“We the family of the late Matthew Swain would like to express sincere gratitude and thank lead investigators Cpl. Patrick Duffy, Const. Murray Haggerty, Victim Services, the Chief Medical Examiner, Crown prosecutors and the Russell RCMP for their active and persistent work leading up to the arrests of the accused in the murder of Matthew,” reads a statement sent to the Sun by Cynthia Swain.
On Wednesday, Russell RCMP announced two men had been charged in Swain’s death. 34-year-old Robert Fleury was charged with manslaughter and 29-year-old Desmond Tanner was charged with second-degree murder. Neither charge has been proven in court and both are still before the court.
Swain, who was 40 years old when he died, was found by Russell RCMP on Aug. 14, 2019 near the Russell Airport.
At the time, police said Swain was brutally assaulted and died as a result of his injuries after being transported to a nearby hospital.
Now that charges have been laid, Cynthia said the family hopes to get answers and begin the healing journey.
“Matthew’s five-year-old daughter Dillynn lost a major part of her life — her daddy and her best friend. We as a family lost our son, brother, uncle, great uncle and a dear friend to many,” she said.
“We will forever miss Matthew and the relationships we had with him. His absence is felt on a daily basis and we will forever keep his memory alive in our hearts. We would also like to say a heartfelt thank you to those who have supported and continued to pray that there would be justice for Matthew.”
Both men charged in Matthew Swain’s death are scheduled to appear in court again later in March.
