Cotton candy vendors await customers on the streets of Bhaktapur, Nepal. I loved how the splash of bright pink contrasted with the simple earth tones in the rest of the scene.

This photo is an example of one of my favorite types of images - a real-life, unscripted moment. It’s also always gratifying to portray some of the many new emigrants to our city.

Incense smoke wafts over the faithful at the Bodinath Stupa in Kathmandu, Nepal. Thousands walk slowly and unendingly around the base of one of the city’s most famous landmarks, making it a great place to people-watch. I found a spot where the sun back-lit the scene to accentuate the smoke and then simply waited for the right mix of people to enter the frame.

A monk meditates beneath the Bodhi tree at the birthplace of the Buddha, in southern Nepal. The silent, austere group were intimidating at first, but I approached slowly and eventually motioned to my camera to ask permission. He slowly nodded and we both went about our work.

Alora Bunn and sister Angel Bunn wait for the start of the 3rd annual Graduation Powwow in honour of Brandon University's aboriginal graduates in May.
There were plenty of bright costumes and inspiring stories to be found at this event, but it’s hard not to be wrapped around the little fingers of this pair. I simply sat back and let them be little girls - the smiles soon followed.

Nicholas Smith plays with his toys as anti-abortion supporters rally along First Street in an annual event. I liked how guileless the boy was while literally in the middle of an issue that almost never has any middle ground one way or the other.

Another little girl to inspire was Avery Gerring at the annual Relay for Life event in June. At just 16 months, her story of battling cancer captured the hearts of everyone at the popular fundraiser. I thought this photo captured the emotion of her story, and the support the little girl got from her parents to survive her struggle.

I liked her outfit and ready smile, and the composition, with the scarecrow beside her mirroring the scene, made for an appealing photograph.

A woman’s red sari in the mountain village of Bandipur provides a blaze of colour as the sun sets. After the crowds and the in-your-face tourism of Nepal’s capital, this remote village was literally a breath of fresh air. The pace of life was slower and a visitor could simply wander and look. This photograph captures how it feels to be in such a place.

Robert Sinclair stands by his family yard sale in Minnedosa last July. The boy was selling hugs (for a quarter each) to save money for an upcoming move to Ontario and had already exceeded ten dollars after a day of work. Garage sales always catch my eye, and his bright costume even more so. But it was the undeniable sweetness of this boy and his story that made a photograph here absolutely irresistable to me. I hope he likes his new home.
