The OCN Blizzard are in search of a new bench boss as Doug Johnson left the Manitoba Junior Hockey League club on Tuesday to become the head coach and general manager of the Saskatchewan Junior Hockey League’s Melville Millionaires.

Johnson, 47, took over behind the bench for OCN last August and put together a 33-19-2-4 record to lead the Blizzard to a second-place finish in the West Division.

Their season ended in the first round, however, as they fell to the Virden Oil Capitals in six games.

Johnson previously worked in the SJHL as the general manager and head coach of the Nipawin Hawks for 11-and-a-half seasons.

He won the league’s coach of the year award three times and led the Hawks to a championship in 2018.
