• 60 YEARS AGO — Jack Denbow leaves Boxing Day to study judo at the world headquarters — the Kodokan — in Japan.
• 50 YEARS AGO — Terry Ross scored two goals, including the game-winner with 21 seconds remaining, to lift Simplot past Chimo 5-4 in a Brandon Minor Hockey Association game.
• 40 YEARS AGO — Brian Moffatt and his rink of third Garry McIntosh, second Gene Cory and lead Larry McCulloch beat Frank Gudz 9-1 at the Brandon Curling Club to claim the Zone 8 berth in the proivncial men’s championship.
• 20 YEARS AGO — Derek Cantlon has been named the Tiger Hills Hockey League player of the week for the week ending Dec. 14. Cantlon, of the Pilot Mound Pilots, scored seven goals and three assists in three Pilots’ victories that put the team in a three-way tie for first place.
• 10 YEARS AGO — Tanner Kaspick and Matthew Gerdis both scored twice for the Brandon U18 AAA Wheat Kings (25-2-0), while Duncan Campbell, Josh Kobelka and Ty Lewis also scored as the Manitoba U18 AAA Hockey League-leading Wheat Kings blanked the Parkland Rangers 7-0 at the Sportsplex to run their winning streak to 16 games.
